MENSCH: A person of character.

MENSCH: A person of character. An individual of recognized worth because of noble values or actions.

If you’ve ever been to San Francisco more than likely you were greeted by the fog.  I was there for a training class earlier this year.  There was one other time that I had the pleasure of visiting but I didn’t leave my heart in San Fran.  This trip was a new and fresh experience much like waking early on a spring morning with crisp air and the moist dew that settles on blades of grass.

One of my most favorite experiences when I travel is the taxi ride.  The driver helps me with my luggage and smiles as he puts it into his trunk.  No words spoken, I nod as he smiles.  I’ve finally remembered to carry cash for the taxi trip.  Although the drivers will take credit cards they hate to take credit cards.  I settle in the back seat because you can never sit up front; no “I’ve got shotgun” in a taxi.  In most cities taxis are well kept unless you are in Chicago; that’s a different story.  As I settle into the back seat my thoughts wonder.  Not for any particular reason just because the driver doesn’t say anything.  The driver’s English is broken at best.  I listen intently as I would when I am speaking with someone from Whales.  It’s English but you have to filter the accent to determine what is being said.  Finally, we both understand the location that I need to go and that he should drive me there.  This is when the experience begins; I’m never sure if the driver knows how to get me to the location.  Imagine yourself being new to a city and trying to give directions to a place that you have never been to before.  That’s what its like.  I laugh inside at the fact that I am giving directions to a person that lives in that city and drives in that city.  It makes life more interesting…

Expecting who knows what; booked it over the phone sight unseen.  His name was Billy and he sounded just like you would think, “don’t worry about anything, just bring yourselves and a towel.  We’ll take care of the rest”, is what he said.  You are probably thinking the same thing that I thought “never trust anyone that says don’t worry.”
